Midhurst Common @ Midhurst/Bepton, West Sussex Tuesday 17th August 2004
A walk in Midhurst Common for the first time in 10 years, which I lived opposite during 9 years of my childhood. Much had changed, areas chopped back and new alarmingly tall trees that make me feel old, but the basis was the same. I spent a lot of time roaming around there as a kid, from my house you could walk to my cub/scout hut through it, and to one of my friend's houses also. Most nights at scouts involved being set loose in it for wide games, building campfires with paraffin etc. Despite one or two wrong turnings I didn't get lost at all, and it's even more beautiful than I remember. On a side note, i remember thinking when I was young once whilst in the woods there that one day we'll all have a device on our person, where you can have a video conversation with anyone, remotely, without wires. 10 years(ish) on I had my 3g video phone on me. It was, of course, out of range of mobile area, let alone g or 3g range, so we still have a few years to go :)
