After seeing signs on the M6 advertising queues and long delays between junctions 15 and 14 I got my GPS to find me an alternative route. This would have been great had an A road not been closed forcing me to pay to travel on the M6 Toll for a couple of miles, but there we go. As a side note I think motorway maintenance could be my calling in life - close roads, put out lots of cones, park some vehicles by the side of the road then bugger off home for a few weeks - marvelous! Anyway, sorry, back to the story! As I was travelling down the A50 at high speed I saw from behind the trees what looked like a huge glowing sign. There'd just been a gorgeous sunset and what at first I thought couldn't possibly be the moon did in fact turn out to be. It was huge! One of the hugest moons I've ever seen, and bright fiery orange with a red rim. It looked like mars was crashing into the earth, so I tried to stop in the nearest layby with a good view and take shots. I failed, the place I finally stopped at had a pretty crap view and even with a tripod I couldn't see over the bushes. The best I could I get is the first shot, which was taken with the camera in the air and a relatively short exposure. The second shot is from where I stopped a few miles along. By this time the moon was higher and smaller, but I had a better view. The first shot is taken with the camera on top of my car's roof and a long exposure. The 3rd is a digitally zoomed and slightly sharpened image taken with a shorter exposure. Unfortunately I only had a 55mm lens so I couldn't really do it justice (for slightly more professional shots see here for pictures taken when I had my telescope). It was quite a sight to see though and made a nice end to what was already a great day. Unfortunately it was slightly marred a bit later by road closures etc, but that's life ;) | | | | | | | | | | Views: 30 - Comments: 0 | Views: 28 - Comments: 0 | Views: 46 - Comments: 0 |
