Camping @ Charity Farm, Smithybrow, Wrightington Bar, Lancashire, UK Friday 16th June 2006
Look at it - beautiful. A huge field a few miles from the M6 in Lancashire near Chorley. We both drove to the campsite from opposite directions after work and arrived at about 8pm. There were only 2 other tents in the entire field, both quiet and we got a great night's sleep after an evening meal (Chery's delicious homemade lentil soup and my 2 most recent chocolate mousse experiments - Kahlua and Amaretto); awakened only by the scorching morning sun. The following night we were kept awake by a party of drunk chavs (including one girl who was absolutely screaming her head off in a drunken stupor - much like an episode of big brother), followed by being woken up (and kept awake) first thing (7.30am on Sunday morning - so my for a lie in!) by 2 incredibly noisy hyperactive kids and a football. I guess the upside of going to a smaller campsite is you can end up with peace and quiet if lucky - the downside that there's no curfew, warden or enforcement if not. Anyway, we were staying in Lancashire because Cherry had a gig on Saturday evening in Manchester. Cherry has family nearby so the plan was to visit them Saturday daytime and weather permitting go somewhere scenic. At midday on Saturday it transpired due to a lack of communication that the gig was Sunday lunchtime instead, which meant we had more time to relax and enjoy Saturday. Instead we had a lazy morning, visited Tatton Park for a picnic and look around (see the next gallery) then had a nice dinner in the evening. Quite unplanned but a nice way to spend a Saturday.
